
The light turns everything the colour of dark honey. For maybe twenty minutes the whole city is that colour. Then it goes, and the town shuts down, and the muezzins start, and you have a slightly complicated feeling about time.
Ichan Kala was the first UNESCO site inscribed in Central Asia (1990). It is also the only fully preserved walled Silk Road oasis city on Earth.
