# Sailgokh Street (Tashkent Broadway)

> Sailgokh — a pedestrianised strip between Amir Timur Square and Independence Square, filled with cafés, buskers, artists selling paintings and evening crowds.

**Sailgokh Kochasi** was pedestrianised in 1988 and quickly nicknamed "Broadway" for its concentration of restaurants, bars and live entertainment. It's the shortest natural walk between Tashkent's two main civic plazas, so you'll pass along it whether or not you're looking for nightlife.

Along the ~600 metres of the street:

- **Portrait artists and caricaturists** — active from mid-afternoon to late evening. A quick portrait costs about 30,000–100,000 UZS depending on style.
- **Original painters** — booths of local landscape and abstract work, generally friendly to browsing.
- **Restaurants and terraces** — Georgian, Uzbek, Italian, sushi. **Café Karavan** is a landmark for national cuisine with a lively courtyard.
- **Fountains and benches** — good place to escape midday heat.

Broadway's best time is 19:00–23:00 in summer, when temperatures drop and the entire street fills with families and buskers. The southern end opens directly onto Amir Timur Park.

For sit-down dining nearby, **Center Plov** near the Uzbekistan Museum of Arts is a five-minute taxi away and worth a lunchtime detour.
