About us

A Silk Road company, run by people from the Silk Road

We're a local Uzbek operator, not a booking agency. Founded by Avaz Bokiev and Shukhrat Atakulov, with the office rooted in Samarkand and regional leads in Bukhara, Tashkent, the Fergana Valley and Nukus. The people who design your trip are the people who deliver it.

Our story

Started in a Samarkand courtyard, still local at heart

Uzbekistan Guided Tours was founded by two Samarkandis with almost two decades of Uzbek travel and hospitality experience between them. Avaz Bokiev began his career in 2007 with a Samarkand travel company, learning the Silk Road circuit from the inside out — how to route a group across the Fergana Valley, the Kyzylkum, and the four great oasis cities without a rush. Shukhrat Atakulov started in 2008 in the hotel and hospitality industry, running front-of-house at some of the country's better-known guesthouses and boutique hotels.

They kept crossing paths on the same tours — one designing the journey, the other making sure the beds, meals and evenings were worthy of it. Eventually they combined what they were already doing separately into a single operation, run from a courtyard in Samarkand, with the same principle from day one: the person you email is the person who plans your trip, and the person on the ground is the person you already know.

Today the company runs small-group and private journeys across the Silk Road with regional leads in Bukhara, Tashkent, the Fergana Valley and Nukus. Nothing is subcontracted; nothing is phoned in.

How we work

The four principles we won't sell out on

Local, always

The person you email in Tashkent is the person who briefs your guide in Khiva. No middlemen, no phoned-in guides.

Slow enough to notice

Two nights minimum in every Silk Road city. A full day at Charvak. A full afternoon in a Rishton studio. None of this rewards a rush.

Fair to the people who host you

We publish our day rates. Homestay families and yurt-camp cooks are paid direct, in cash, the day you stay.

Honest about the difficult bits

Summer heat in Bukhara, the Muynak drive, the shoulder seasons at Aydarkul. We flag it all before you book.

Founders

Two Uzbekistan-based operators, two decades of Silk Road experience

The people whose names are on this company are the people who answer your first email, plan your route, and meet you at Tashkent airport. No white-labelled partners in between.
