Shukhrat's background, in his own words
Shukhrat Atakulov began his career in Uzbek hospitality in 2008, working front-of-house at some of the better-known Samarkand and Bukhara boutique guesthouses during a period when Uzbek hotel standards were being rebuilt to serve returning international travellers. Seventeen years on he runs on-ground operations for Uzbekistan Guided Tours: the boutique heritage hotels, courtyard guesthouses, home-stay families, and the Kazakh yurt camp on Lake Aydarkul that the company's travellers actually experience day to day.
His domain is the part of the trip that guests feel but rarely see explained: the check-in that just works, the courtyard breakfast at the right hour, the plov cook who is expecting you by name. He personally vets every property the company uses, maintains the relationships with home-stay hosts and yurt-camp cooks, and pays those partners direct on the day rather than through an intermediary.
As the reviewer on the Uzbekistan Guided Tours knowledge hub, Shukhrat fact-checks every published article against current on-the-ground reality — hotel opening times, home-stay availability, hammam operating hours, the last time the Muynak road was resurfaced, whether the plov cauldrons at Chorsu are still there before noon. His review pass is what stops a travel article on this site from going stale.
Born in Samarkand and based there today, Shukhrat works in Uzbek, Russian and English. He is the person a first-time traveller is likely to meet at Tashkent airport, and the person a returning traveller usually asks for by name.
